Johann Friedrich von Allmen & Carlos de Leon

Created by Martin Suter

Carlos & Johann

You’re pulling my leg, right?

JOHANN FRIEDRICH von ALLMEN is the suave dandy and the “head” of Allmen International Inquiries, a detective agency that specializes in the recovery of stolen objets d’art and other precious trinkets, sounds like he should know what he’s doing. Especially with that triple-barreled name.

But his clever, pragmatic Guatemalan butler (and business partner) CARLOS de LEON is dubious. Extremely dubious. As in Wooster-and-Jeeves dubious. Not that von Allmen is necessarily as befuddled as Wooster, but he has his moments

Their cases take the would-be gentleman sleuth and his “man” through all the swellegant places in Europe, where they hobnob with the rich and the famous, in a series of frothy, lightly comic adventures, originally written in German by Martin Suter, a Swiss author, columnist and screenwriter. The books are now being translated into English by New Vessel Press, and a television show based on the books is now airing in North America on MHz.
